A lot has been done to the porch since we purchased Howard Hall. On the verge of collapse when we got here, we replaced all of the support structures, including the large beams that run the length of the porch as well as the brick columns that support the deck from below. The beams, which were hand-hewn on site, support the newly installed decking boards, which were completely rotted before they were replaced. Twelve fluted columns have just been installed after several years of trying to track down ones that would have been identical to the original 1800s columns. We are currently in the process of rebuilding the roof that overhangs the porch.
